About Wild Spokes

Context for the Curious (or Concerned)

Wild Spokes was born the moment I turned a perfectly good midlife crisis into a continent-wide bike ride.

This blog is where I track the messy middle: the training, the gear, the inevitable wrong turns—both literal and life-related—and the small, unexpected moments that somehow make all the chafing feel worth it.

Why Cycle Across America?

I could say it’s about adventure. Or testing my limits. Or reconnecting with the open road. And those things are true. But it’s also because I needed a challenge that terrified and excited me in equal measure. And I got tired of waiting for the “right” time to do something bold.

I’m not trying to set records or discover the meaning of life in a pair of padded shorts. I mostly just want to see what happens when I ride far enough that everything unnecessary falls away and if I can do it.

If you’re looking to read the journey from the beginning, start with the first post. Don’t worry, it picks up. Eventually. Sort of.

What You’ll Find

This site is equal parts travel journal, training log, gear review archive, and therapy session disguised as blog posts. A few things I share regularly:

Training updates: The good, the bad, and the “I got dropped by an 11-year-old on a hill” moments
Gear that works (and gear that absolutely didn’t)
Reflections from the road: People I meet, routes I ride, and strange thoughts that occur at mile 73
Photos from the ride because I can’t help myself
Tips for riders, dreamers, and anyone thinking, “What if I just did the thing?”
